A partial solar eclipse will be visible on December 26th from 14 provinces of Thailand

With the best views of the phenomenon will be from Betong district of the southern border province of Yala.

According to the National Astronomical Research Institute, the event can be viewed from:

  • Chiang Rai    10.23am to 1.44pm
  • Chiang Mai 10.19 am to 1.44 pm
  • Nakhon Sawan 10.19 am to 1.53 pm
  • Bangkok 10.19 am to 1.57 pm
  • Prachuap Khiri Khan 10.16 am to 1.58 pm
  • Khon Kaen 10.29 am to 2.01 pm
  • Nakhon Ratchasima  10.25am to 2.01pm
  • Ubon Ratchathani 10.34 am to 2.09 pm
  • Chachoengsao   10.21 am to 1.59 pm
  • Koh Samui 10.16 am to 2.01 pm
  • Phuket        10.11 am to 1.57 pm
  • Songkhla    10.16 am to 2.05 pm
  • Betong district of Yala 10.18 am to 2.08 pm
  • Narathiwat 10.20 am to 2.10 pm

Four observatories in Mae Rim district of Chiang Mai, Chachoengsao, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Songkhla provinces will be open to the public for viewing of the eclipse. In Betong district, the eclipse will reach 81%.

The institute is warning people not to watch the event with naked eyes because looking directly at the sun can cause blindness.
